The bandstand in the West Park, Stanhope Road, South Shields presented here with an antique sepia effect to compliment the subject and give the impression of an old Victorian photograph.
A little history sourced from English Heritage:-
Bandstand - circa 1894, designed and made by James Allanson & Sons of Glasgow, an octagonal bandstand with slender cast iron columns supporting an octagonal ogee shaped dome.
Interesting internal structure for the dome, which is now covered with modern felt, finished with tall spikey weather vane, to the roof edges there is decorative cast iron brackets, with decorative cast iron balustrade between the columns at floor level.
The bandstand is classed as a nice example of its genre and is now becoming rare.
The park was opened in 1894 in part of what was Brinkburn Dane.
