This is the rear of the clock tower of the Town Hall in South Shields taken in the late afternoon one November from Beech Road, the corner of the council office buildings are to the left of the photograph, the court jester statue stands atop of the dome part of the building.
Work began in 1910 in building this very well known landmark designed by architect E.E. Fetch and was opened by Mayor George Thomas Grey in 1910, design is of 18th Century English Renaissance, the clock tower is 146 feet high, and boasts one of the most impressive if not one of the largest weather vanes of a 2 metre boat made of pure copper, which is said to be able to hold several men.
